K M Madhusudhanan is an Indian filmmaker and artist. He was born in Alappuzha, Kerala in 1956. He was trained in painting at Fine Arts College in Thiruvananthapuram and in printmaking at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
Although he is known better for his films which inspect the notions of history and memory, Madhusudhanan is also a draughtsman, painter and graphic artist. His practice as a draughtsman dates back to his childhood. The artist considers his drawings to be a vital part of his creative process even as a filmmaker, employing them in both conceptualisation and execution of his vision. His work has been shaped by Marxist and Buddhist thought. This is especially evident in his installation of 90 drawings, The Logic of Disappearance - A Marx Archive which was exhibited at Kochi-Muziris Biennale in 2014 and Venice Biennale in 2015.
He has been exhibited at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA), Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Vadehra Art Gallery, The Guild Art Gallery, Chemould Prescott Road, and at India Art Fair in 2016, Art Basel Hong Kong in 2016 and 2017. His works have been part of shows curated by Geeta Kapur, Gayatri Sinha, Jitish Kallat and Roobina Karode.
Madhusudhanan lives and works in Kerala.
