Baba Anand, was born in 1961 in Srinagar, Kashmir where he did his graduation in Commerce from the Islamia College of Science and Commerce before studying for his Diploma in Fashion Design from the National Institute of Fashion Design in Delhi.

Though Baba began his career as a fashion designer and had a successful few years working in the fashion industry, he switched his medium in response to a personal quest, and over the last couple of decades his playing field has been mainly in the domain of the arts. The impact of fashion and pop culture and his love for the world of Indian Cinema is evident in work with vintage film posters, oleographs and lithographs.

Painting in mixed-media, creating collages and installations, his work is marked for its vibrant colours, decorative patterns, engaging designs, juxtaposed materials and different embellishments including flowers and other unusual three-dimensional objects. There is a freshness and originality, in creations that encompass diverse themes from Bollywood to religious icons and from popular matter to vintage oleographs. His Krishna and other Hindu deities are decorated with sequins, crystals and gold and silver dust while his series of paintings inspired by Indian Premier League cricket has his kiss imprints on the canvases!

There is a match and mix of the whimsical and the jubilant, classical styles with a glitzy stylish approach and the spiritual with the irreverent. The richly textured work appears seductive and playful as it crosses boundaries and challenges assumptions to celebrate the power of the spirit and the kitsch.

Winner of the RechercheLibre Scholarship for advanced research in the field of Art in Paris, Baba has travelled extensively and his work has been exhibited in significant shows at Delhi, Mumbai, Paris, London, New York, Cannes and Moscow amongst others. It has also been featured in many international publications such as Nice Matin, Vanity Fair, British Vogue, New York Magazine and India Today. The artist who has a home and a studio on the outskirts of Delhi is an itinerant traveler and works on different continents.
