Harshada Kerkar Sonak was born in 1965, to a family of artists in Goa. Her father was an artist and her brother, Subodh, is one of the state's most renowned watercolourists as well as a medical doctor. The family also owns their own art gallery in Goa, which has become a centre of great artistic and cultural activity in the state. Harshada has obtained her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a focus in Painting from the SNDT University, Mumbai. Kerkar has many solo and group exhibitions to her credit and has also participated in the annual national Lalit Kala Academy exhibitions in New Delhi. Kerkar Sonak's portraits are truly amazing. Whether painting in oils or working with pastels, the artist captures the expressions and moods of her subjects with photographic realism. Her choice of colour also enhances the communicative power of the works and viewers are left amazed by Harshada's ability to freeze and capture intangibles like innocence, joy and pain.
