Born in 1972 in Tamil Nadu, A.L. Aparajithan received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Government College of Fine Arts, Chennai, in 1996, and his Master’s degree in the same from the Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S. Born in 1972 in Tamil Nadu, A.L. Aparajithan received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Government College of Fine Arts, Chennai, in 1996, and his Master’s degree in the same from the Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S. University, Baroda, in 2001. Aparajithan is the son of the late renowned artist, K.M. Adimoolam.
Aparajithan primarily uses the human figure as subject in his works. He depicts these figures in an abstract way, representing the emotional states of peace or distress. The artist is also known for his use of very bold colors against absolute pitch black backgrounds.
Aparajithan’s work has been exhibited in several shows including ‘Expressions: The Art Within’, organized by Drishti, Coimbatore, in 2005; the Regional Art Exhibition organized by Lalit Kala Akademi, Hyderabad, in 2003; ‘Contemporary Art Circle Exhibition’ at the Lalit Kala Akademi, Chennai, and ‘Drawn Memories and Painted Shadows’ at Vimonisha Art Gallery, Chennai, in 2002; ‘Similarities and Dissimilarities’ at Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2001; and ‘Parampara’ at Threshold Art Gallery, Vishakapatnam, in 2000.
Aparajithan was honoured with a Junior Fellowship from the Culture Department, New Delhi, in 2002; and received the Tamil Nadu State Lalit Kala Akademi Award for Painting in 1998.
The artist currently lives and works in Chennai.
