A student of the J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, Homi Patel was born in the city in 1928. Along with his contemporaries, K. Ambadas, Apollinario D'Souza and S.G. Nikam, Patel formed a set that promoted a rigid adherence to the nonrepresentational and abstract interpretation of art. Homi Patel’s works remained true to that commitment through his career.

He exhibited in the Venice, Biennale 1954, Indian Painters, Zurich 1956. 1970. 1971, Dusseldorf, Germany 1972, Essen Germany 1973, Werl, Germany 1986.
Homi Patel’s works are in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and the Tata Instite of Fundamental Research, Mumbai.
He passed away in 2004.
