A number of noted aritsts join Subodh Gupta in offering their works for auction to help the Bihar flood victims

The Bollywood fraternity has often come together to help the country during calamities. But this time around noted Indian artists have come together to gather as much as four crores for Bihar flood victims. Artists including Subodh Gupta and wife Bharti Kher, Atul Dodiya, Jitish Kallat, Sudarshan Shetty, Riyaz Komu, Bose Krishnamachari and Chintan Upadhyaya have donated a painting each for the cause. The online charity auction will be conducted by Dinesh and Minal Vazirani's Saffronart from November 13 to 15.

Bharti Kher says, "Subodh was the first one to suggest that we should help the victims of Bihar." Subodh adds, "There are so many people who are homeless. Though things have improved there, they still need help. The winter is fast approaching. They will need money now more than ever."

Dinesh Vazirani says, "Sudarshan Shetty and a few others created artworks just for the auction. The entire proceeds will go towards charity." Subodh adds, "Even Christie's was interested in conducting the auction. But we thought of keeping it Indian."

Given the economic meltdown is it the right time to hold an auction? "The floods didn't wait for good times," answers Bhartri. Dinesh adds, "The time is right because it is for a cause. It's not a money making venture."

Subodh and Bharti say that they have given one of their best works for the auction. "We want to accumulate maximum funds and have decided to give it to two NGOs—namely Goonj and SSVK (Samajik Shaikshanik Vikas Kendra). These work at the ground level. Though, we are open to other NGOs also."
