Thence by descent

One of the most important deities in Vedic philosophy, the majestic Surya is stylised with a double- layered crown with finely carved details that echo the Gupta style of sculptures. Surya's countenance bears the sakshi bhava, which conveys the deity's awareness over his own thoughts and his ability to transcend them. The kaustuba (gem) on his chest signifies pure knowledge.

His necklace is shaped in the form of pendant mangoes. Jewelled armbands adorn his biceps with traces of lotus stems coiling around them. Surya is typically shown with two lotuses. He would have held a lotus in each hand.
