The Apple Cart, was first published in German in 1929, and was first performed in Warsaw in Polish.

It is a satirical comedy about numerous political views that the protagonists dwell on, frequently in extended monologues. The narrative follows the fictitious English King Magnus as he spars with, and finally outwits, Prime Minister Proteus and his cabinet, who aim to rob the monarchy of its last political authority. Magnus is opposed to the corporation "Breakages, Ltd," which manipulates politicians and stifles technological advancement.
