Including Historical Sketches of India and Her Princes Past and Present , London: Longmans, Green, Reader and Dyer, no date but [1878] xix; 248 pages; three coloured maps (one double-spread of the Durbar arena), portraits of 11 Indian Maharajahs, Queen Victoria and Viceroy Lord Lytton and 12 views of Delhi and of the Durbar; one double-spread chromolithograph by Hanhart, depicting the Imperial Assemblage at Delhi; and medallions. (24 of the 26 Woodbury type actual sepia photographs pasted on thick sheets are by Bourne & Shepherd of Calcutta); richly rebound in red half-leather with marbled boards and leather corners and matching marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Spine richly tooled in gilt designs and embossments and carrying the words ‘Wheeler Imperial Assemblage At Delhi’ and at the spine bottom the oval gilt embossment stating ‘Library of Canada Parliament’. Front board bottom also carries the gilt impression ‘Library of Parliament’. Stamp on the front free endpaper stating the book is WITHDRAWN from the Parliament library. The rest are at the beginning of each chapter, and 1 map of the Hejaz in black at the end, all protected by serpentes captioned; rebound in contemporary full leather with ornamental floral pattern debossed on the front and back boards, gilt title at the front board and at the spine with four raised bands 13.1 x 10.4 x 1.5 in (33.3 x 26.5 x 4 cm) The work is dedicated "to the memory of the Muslims who died for France”.
