Manik's work depicts her disillusionment with life in a city like Mumbai. To her, the city
is like a deep hole that gives her various images. She finds the people getting
increasingly money-minded and pressed for time. The economic and mental state of the
people is an indication of the degradation of mankind. It is these strong feelings that
come across in Manik's paintings. Manik prefers watercolour and acrylic as her medium. She
admires the work of Atul Dodiya and Bhupen Khakkar. She paints for her own satisfaction
and would like to teach art at some point.
Manik completed her B.F.A. in Painting from the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai (1999). She
is currently doing her M.F.A. - I with a specialization in Creative Painting at the same
institute.
