Chandan Das was born in 1957 to the legendary printmaker, Harendranath Das. Chandan obtained a Diploma in Fine Arts from the Government college of Art and Craft, Kolkata and a Post Graduate degree in Graphic Art from Kala Bhavan, Vishwa Bharati, Santiniketan.
Das, who is presently teaching at the Government College of Art and Craft in Kolkata has, over the years, won several awards from many organizations, including Indian Society of Oriental Art, Birla Academy of Art and Culture and Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, West Bengal State Academy Award, AIFACS, New Delhi and Andhra Pradesh Council of Artist.
In 1980 he had his first solo show at the Lalit Kala Academi, New Delhi. Since then he has held solo shows at the British Paints Décor Service Gallery, and Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. In 1998 Righlines Art Gallery in Bangalore presented his work along with another artist.
He has taken part in group exhibition in many places in India, including Academy of Fine Arts, Lalit Kala Akedemi and Information Centre, Kolkata; Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi; Jehangir Art Gallery and Nehru Centre, Mumbai; Sumukha Art Gallery, Bangalore as part of the society of Contemporary Artists' Show, Exhibition of Indian Printmakers - the Latest Trends at CIMA Gallery, Kolkata; Art Access Week sponsored by the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Mumbai.
He has also participated in several prestigious international exhibitions, including Intergrafik in Germany, Egyptian International Print Triennale, Bharat Bhavan Biennale of Contemporary Indian Art in Bhopal, Maltwood Art Museum and Gallery as part of the Cultural Festival event of the Commonwealth Games and the Inter Nordic Graphic Art Exhibition in Norway.
He has attended camps wih several leading printmakers, including carol summer, Paul Lingren and Krishna Reddy and his works are in several collections in India and abroad, including the Academy of Fine Arts Kolkata Permanent Gallery, Birla Academy of Art and Culture Permanent Gallery, National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Chandigarh Art College, and many private collections
