Read More Jenny Bhatt's recent work is engaged with exploring the relationship of the painted image with perception, emotion and sensation. This is with reference to ideas and concepts from Indian spiritual thought, philosophy and aesthetics, albeit from a contemporary point of view. She is working on this particularly through colour, at this time. The translucence of the images and their inherent luminosity seem significant to their progression. A keen interest in the mind-body connection, Transcendental Meditation practice, Reiki and Yoga, contribute to a holistic view of things. Her work has begun to explore the healing properties of an image and it's constituents, it's ability to initiate a positive, fundamental change in the mind through visual perception and also it's ability to move the spirit by addressing it on several levels simultaneously. The nature of Mind, Consciousness and Energy as the fundamental basis of creation, are all present concerns. The questions in the artist's mind are about how her work can initiate a meaningful dialogue with the viewer, how it can be rooted in her own culture and yet speak a universal language, discussing universal issues. And through it, arrive at a better understanding of the intrinsic nature of things. The questions it asks are: What are the principles central to creation? What are the values that make a work of art significant? And then, what is its purpose? Not that it's all straight- faced and humourless! Living in a world of perpetual paradox is perpetually challenging. Her images try to make a difference by inducing a state of reflection. They say what they have to say and also revel in the general absurdity of the way of the world, with a happy irreverence for Pathos. They document the curious mix that makes up a complex, yet interesting reality - a world that is lightness and depth, frivolity and profundity, all co-existing cheerfully along with a refreshing purity of spirit and creative endeavour. Jenny studied art at Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai. She has had several solo shows and has participated in group shows in India and abroad, most recently in New York. In the past, she has worked in the areas of graphic design and publication for children, which led to exploring digital and interactive art. She continues to travel and write on art, for leading publications. Jenny lives and works in Mumbai, India.
