In my opinion, we need to rethink the reason for the division between modern and contemporary..does it have to be chronological? Will it not be easier if we thought of the divide as stylistic? Can contemporary be a form of art by modern art or impressionism and surrealism?

I've always found the modern/contemporary divide problematic - so many artists are lost in the grey area between - Girish's example of Sudhir is a good one...Any others? Navjot perhaps?

A great discussion - raised a lot of questions for me about terminology and derivation (should we be coining a new term for derivation?!)
