Saffronart to showcase modern masters
KOLKATA: Leading domestic auctioneer Saffronart is coming up with a sale of modern masters in December. The auction will put 110 lots under the hammer and sports a total estimate of Rs 27-35 crore. Two of the highest priced works are S H Raza's Maha Bindu and Tyeb Mehta's Falling Figure.

"There is a range of paintings with names like S H Raza, F N Souza, Tyeb Mehta, V S Gaitonde, Ram Kumar, Rameshwar Broota, Jogen Chowdhury, Krishen Khanna etc. One will find significant works for high-end collectors, and smaller ones for people who want to extend their collection," Saffronart's director Mr Dinesh Vazirani told ET.

Among the highlights are F N Souza's Titian's Grandfather, estimated at Rs 1-1.3 crore, S H Raza's Maha Bindu with an estimate of Rs 1.5-2.2 crore and Tyeb Mehta's Falling Figure, also priced at the same level. A small V S Gaitonde oil on canvas from the 1950s is estimated at Rs 54-68 lakh. Sakti Burman's Durga is pegged at Rs 50-60 lakh and a Jogen Chowdhury at Rs 35-42 lakh.
