A daily wage worker in Bhopal, Subhash Bheel was inspired to paint by his mother, Gangu Bai. Along with his two brothers Dinesh and Rakesh, Subhash creates paintings inspired by both his personal life as well as the communal experiences he shares in when he returns to his village in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh. His work frequently references Bhil 'gatlas' or carved memory pillars as well as the tribal rituals of 'gad bapsi' and 'gal bapsi', both rites of passage for Bhil men.
