CENTRAL ASIAN CARPET

A handsome carpet from the middle Amu Darya region in Central Asia that straddles present-day Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. These carpets are sometimes attributed to weavers of the Ersari tribes from the Beshir area and were likely woven in small village workshops. These incredibly beautiful carpets used a small range of colours: various shades of red, blue, brown, ivory white, and touches of yellow. The composition is sometimes referred to as mahi or a fish motif made of lotus flowers, and a dense repeat of this pattern fills up the entire central panel. A wide major border filled with pinwheel flowers frames the central panel and is itself flanked by two narrow borders filled with tiny rosettes. Beautiful colours and incredibly lustrous oily soft wool.

There is a black fabric sleeve sown on the back of the carpet in case it is desired to be hung
