KURDISH CARPET FROM EAST ANATOLIA

A Yuruk carpet woven by a Kurdish weaver from the East Anatolian region bordering Armenia. The narrow central panel has been divided into four sections, each of which is adorned by a large central concentric set of diamonds, flanked by four smaller sets of concentric diamonds in each of the four corner sections. These diamond shapes are mythically supposed to represent a symbol to ward off the evil eye. A beautiful apricot-dyed border frames the field and is filled with crab-shaped flowers. Lustrous wool and dyes, some of which (for example, the apricot colour) are considered to be unique to this group of Kurdish weavings.

There is a black fabric sleeve sown on the back of the carpet in case it is desired to be hung
