Read More Akhilesh Kumar’s works may be described as fiery compositions of dark and light. His explosions of warm colours, melting into various known and unknown forms, set against dark backgrounds appear as molten lava seeping through charred grounds. In his paintings one can also see representations of the stages of growth, mostly depicted using various elements of flora such as shrubs, stems and flowers. Although it can be argued that the colours used are the same as those of an inferno, the representations of growth and the luminous aura emitted by the fluid forms make his paintings seem almost spiritual in content. Born in 1978 in Begusarai, Akhilesh Kumar received a Bachelor’s degree in painting, followed by a Master’s degree, also in painting from the Faculty of Visual Arts at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. His solo exhibitions include 'Concept and Texture' at Karnataka Chitra Kala Parishath Gallery, Bangalore, and at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2007. Amongst his recent group shows are 'Point and Line To Plane V' at Point of View Gallery, Mumbai, in 2009; 'From a Palace' at Ashok Art Gallery, New Delhi, in 2008; Gallery Beyond, Mumbai, also in 2008; and 'Connected…Lines Dangling, Cubes Tumbling Flying Surface, Melting Sky, Loops and Hoops, Zooming Past', a printmaker’s exhibition at Kitab Mahal Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2006.
