PROVENANCE
The Tandan Collection

This classic portrait shows a majestic raja in profile view holding a sword, standing on an ornate carpet. He has the "rounded foreheads, elongated eyes with edges upturned and slightly hooked noses," (Chakraverty, Indian Miniature, pp. 71 - 72) seen in some Rajasthani miniatures. He wears a red turban and jama embroidered with gold, and a contrasting green patka with pearl tassels. Strings of pearls adorn his neck and his sarpech, armbands and bracelet are set with precious stones.
