Rodwittiya`s two-dimensional figuration and her jewel-like use of color in this painting, simulates the Indian miniature tradition, while her use of the single, frontally positioned meditating woman invokes devotional art. However, Rodwittiya draws more than surface patterns from the classical aesthetic tradition of India. Her work is also involved in creating the sense of unity that is embodied in the ancient concept of `Rasa`.

In this untitled painting the woman is positioned at the centre of the canvas; her meditating form, resembling a Hindu icon, becomes part of the overall tapestry of the painting. "Rekha`s style of depiction enriches such harmony of images by drawing out the relationship between unlike things... her purposefully naïve symbolism unites the transient, contemporary world with the mythical and timeless." (p. 1, Karin Miller-Lewis, Rekha Rodwittiya: Bye, Bye Baby, Sakshi Gallery, Exhibition Catalogue 2003)
