He has completed degrees both in studio art and art education including an Art Teacher Diploma from Latur in 1990, a G.D. in Painting with a 5th in Merit from the L.S. Raheja School of Art in 1995, and, finally, a Diploma in Art Education from the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, in 1996. Kurulkar portrays two very different subjects through his body of work. He creates vibrant and colourfully balanced yet still landscapes as well as dominating and sensual female protagonists, both of which he manages to create using his unique fluid strokes. His works have a certain aspect of intricacy, no matter their size, and the skillfulness of the artist can be seen in the balance he creates between larger, more expertly painted areas which are packed with colour and shadow, and smaller delicately painted features whether it be a peacock wrapped behind his female protagonist, or a small boat being swallowed in a rain storm. Kurulkar’s works have been features in several group exhibitions in India and abroad. Over his career, the artist has won several awards for his paintings. Some of them include the Salam Mumbai Merit Certificate in Landscape Painting in 1995, the Art Society of India 1st Camlin Award also in 1995, and the Sahyadri School of Art 1st Prize in Landscape Painting in 1996.
